Jan Gemrot, one of the most outstanding painting talents, who entered the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague after his third year of high school, when he was granted an exception for his exceptional talent. He studied in the studio of classical painting under Professor Zdenek Beran.
Jan Gemrot, a painter and visual artist, is currently one of the leading personalities of the Czech art scene. He belongs to the young driving generation pushing the boundaries of contemporary art. Jan Gemrot is represented in the collections of the National Gallery in Prague and in other important Czech and foreign collections. His exhibitions both shock and attract the attention of professionals and the general public. His work is of great interest to collectors, and his paintings are among the best-selling of all time.
In February 2025, a solo exhibition of Jan Gemrot, the first Czech painter to exhibit at Qatar's state-owned gallery, Catara Cultural Village, took place. The exhibition, entitled In the Realm of Falcons and Horses, presented his current work as well as a specific pictorial installation created exclusively for the occasion of the Qatar International Festival. The exhibition was an unprecedented success in the Qatari media, with one work also becoming part of the prestigious Qatar Museums collection.
In 2022, the Adolf Loos Apartment and Gallery published a book: Jan Gemrot - Observation, authored by renowned art expert, historian and publicist Dr Karel Srp. The image-rich publication traces the individual cycles of the painter from the beginning of his career and documents his creative career up to the present day.
