Provenance:
– purchased by Jindrich Waldes directly from Frantisek Kupka (Waldes archive – Purchase contract dated January 19, 1921 attached. The painting was purchased for 2000 francs). Jindrich Waldes (owner of the Koh-i-noor factory for the production of buttons and snaps) was a close friend, patron, promoter and the most important collector of Frantisek Kupka's work, whom he met in 1919 through the painter Vojtech Hynais.
– private collection of Stefan Osusky, a close friend of Jindrich Waldes and Frantisek Kupka. Osusky acquired the painting Pivoines (rouges et roses) from Jindrich Waldes after many requests. The ambassador Stefan Osusky organized the only joint exhibition of Frantisek Kupka and Alfons Mucha later, held in 1936 under the title Frantisek Kupka and Alfons Mucha, at the Musée des Écoles Étrangères Contemporaines in the Jeu de Paume (Ball Court) in the Tuileries Gardens in Paris.

Certificate of authenticity from Vladimir Lekes, chief author of the Catalogue of Oil Paintings by Frantisek Kupka (published in collaboration with the Adolf Loos Apartment and Gallery, the National Gallery in Prague, the Austrian National Gallery Belvedere, and the exclusive holder of the painter's copyright, the French state company Adagp Paris), registered in the Guide International des experts et spécialistes, published in France, enclosed. The work will be included in the appendix of the only officially approved holder of the copyright to the painter's catalogue of works.
