Frantisek Kupka's painting "Conception/ Danae" became the most expensive painting on the domestic market and also the most expensive Kupka's work sold at Czech auctions with the price of 126.5 million crowns (Auction Adolf Loos Apartment and Gallery on 21.4.2024 in Expo 58 ART).
Five of the ten most expensive paintings at Czech auctions were painted by Frantisek Kupka. Three canvases are by Toyen and one work each by Bohumil Kubista and Oskar Kokoschka. The auction house Adolf Loos Apartment and Gallery sold the highest priced works by Kupka, Toyen and Kokoschka. Nine paintings were created in the 1920s to 1930s and one in the 1910s. The threshold of CZK 10 million and CZK 20 million at Czech auctions first fell in 2007, when two paintings by Kupka sold for CZK 15.8 million and CZK 23.2 million within six months. The first work to sell for more than 50 million crowns was Kupka's painting The Shape of Blue five years later.
From 2016 to 2019, the Czech auction record was worth 62 million crowns (another Kupka, number seven in the top 10). In the last five years, the domestic price maximum has thus more than doubled.
The leader of the Czech auctions, Adolf Loos Apartment and Gallery holds the first, fourth, fifth, sixth, ninth and tenth place in the ranking of the TOP 10 highest achieved prices of art objects sold at Czech auctions and is thus historically the most successful auction house in the history of the Czech Republic.
