The leader in Czech art auctions, the Adolf Loos Apartment and Gallery auction house, will offer a hundred carefully selected top-quality works of art at its upcoming Spring Art Auction.

The most significant lot in the auction will be Frantisek Kupka's magnificent work, Pivoines (rouges et roses). First-class oil paintings by Zdenek Sykora, Josef Sima, and Josef Capek will also be auctioned. The selection will also include rare works by Vaclav Bostik, Emil Filla, and Mikulas Medek. Paintings by leading contemporary artists Jan Merta and Vladimir Kokolia will also be represented. The spring auction will also feature unique sculptures by Stanislav Kolibal and Olbram Zoubek. This year's design glass will be dominated by the famous Stanislav Libensky - Jaroslava Brychtova and Frantisek Vízner.

One of the most significant lot in the spring auction is Frantisek Kupka's oil painting of exceptional quality, Pivoines (rouges et roses), from 1909–1910, with a starting price of EUR 833 330. The work has a unique provenance, as it was first part of the famous collection of Frantisek Kupka's close friend, industrialist Jindrich Waldes, and then of Ambassador Stefan Osusky, who persuaded Waldes to sell it. Correspondence between Kupka and Waldes from January 1921 was also found with the work. Osusky subsequently organized the only joint exhibition of Frantisek Kupka and Alfons Mucha, which took place in Paris in 1936. The work is evidence of the artist's rapidly changing artistic style, which responded with extraordinary originality to developments in modern painting. At the same time, it foreshadows Kupka's abstract position, which began to fully manifest itself the following year.

The auction also includes a rare canvas by Zdenek Sykora - Linie Nr. 61 from 1989 with a starting price of EUR 537 500. This work is fundamental to the artist's line paintings and represents the pinnacle of his systematic exploration of the relationship between precisely defined order and chance. With this innovative approach, Sykora fundamentally transformed the contemporary development of Czech and European art and became one of the most important figures in international geometric abstraction in the second half of the 20th century.

Josef Sima, one of the most prominent representatives of the lyrical movement in Czech post-war abstraction, will be represented at the auction by his extraordinary oil painting Chaotique vert from 1960, with a starting price of EUR 204 170. The painting, which is almost immaterial, almost monochromatic, and very delicately shaded, was painted using a very complex technique in which Sima used the whiteness of the background, which shines through a thin layer of paint. Thanks to these meditative canvases, he was also called "the greatest on the path of meditative painting."

The auction will also include the rare 1939 painting Desire by Josef Capek. With a starting price of EUR 158 330, this work is completely unique and a collector's gem. It is a typical example of his figurative work with a shift towards modern expression, to which Capek brought his characteristic style. Another leading representative of Czech modern painting from the first half of the 20th century who will be represented at the auction is the famous painter Emil Filla with his colorful Still Life with Flowers and Fruit from 1949, with a starting price of EUR 133 330.

Other exceptional items that will appear at the auction include two oil paintings by Vaclav Bostik, Untitled, with a starting price of EUR 133 330 and Untitled, with a starting price of EUR 95 830. Both works, dating from the 1980s, carry hidden meanings that the artist encoded into them using subtle elements.

The spring auction will also feature Mikulas Medek's masterpiece, Hranoly (Prisms), from 1973, with a starting price of EUR 95 830. The stunning and difficult-to-imitate technique and almost drastic process of creating the canvas became a phenomenal part of his art. Bidders will also be offered a work by Toyen, Untitled, from the 1950s, with a starting price of EUR 43 750. Jaroslav Vesin's masterpiece oil painting of gallery quality, Hunting Scene, from 1910, will be offered with a starting price of EUR 39 580.

Glass lovers can look forward to unique glass objects from the workshops of Stanislav Libensky and Jaroslava Brychtova. The first is a fused glass piece entitled Window from 1987-1990, which is set in a custom-made travertine frame by Enzo Gallo. It was acquired directly from the authors for the collection of Harry A. Gaines and has a starting price of EUR 37 500. The second, no less significant, will be Head with Hair from the collection of collectors Francine and Benson Piloff from South Carolina from 1990, with a starting price of EUR 35 420. The name of Frantisek Vizner will also feature among the designer glass. His works, Bowl with Oval Details and Bowl with Circular Details, will be auctioned for EUR 16 670 and EUR 15 000.

Collectors and investors will undoubtedly also be attracted by the offer of unique sculptures, dominated by Olbram Zoubek's partially gilded lead work, Kúros (Athlete), with a starting price of EUR 7 500. Another unique piece is Stanislav Kolíbal's brass work, Model for Construction, which will be auctioned for EUR 3 750.

Czech painting from the first half of the 20th century will be represented at the auction by sought-after names such as Maxim Kopf and Otakar Nejedly.

The second half of the 20th century will be represented by works by painters such as Jiri John, Josef Jira, Jiri Sopko, Tomas Bim, Richard Fremund, Vladimir Komarek, and Ales Lamr.

Contemporary Czech and Slovak art will be represented by outstanding works by Jan Merta, Vladimir Kokolia, Milan Grygar, Petr Nikl, Jan Mikulka, Jan Gemrot, Adam Szentpetery, and Vladimir Skrepl.

All works of art have been verified by leading Czech and foreign experts.

The auction house is the only one in the Czech Republic to provide a lifetime guarantee of authenticity for the works of art it offers.
