The leading auction house Adolf Loos Apartment and Gallery cordially invites you to this year's art auction event, which will take place as part of the Evening Sale Prague on November 9, 2025, in the exhibition hall of the iconic Expo 58 building. The auction will offer 96 carefully selected first-class works of art:
The most significant lot in the autumn auction is a completely rare canvas of exceptional quality by Bohumil Kubista, entitled Zatisi malirske (Painter's Still Life) from 1913, with a starting price of EUR 1 208 330. It is an absolute artistic and collector's gem, which can be considered an icon of Czech Cubism from the painter's peak period. In the pivotal year of 1913, Kubista created only five Cubist oil paintings, which adds to the uniqueness of the work on offer, as all the others are located in state galleries and foundations. Still lifes of this quality have not been auctioned in the modern history of the Czech Republic since 1989.
The auction also includes a rare work by Emil Filla – Still Life with a Bottle of Rum and an Ace of Trumps from 1913–1920, with a starting price of EUR 341 670. Filla's cubism takes on a brighter, more colorful, and even more cheerful tone here. The artist's typical dreamlike view of reality, his departure from the present and the past, and his ability to enjoy the small things in life are also evident here. The auction also includes a small Still Life with a Cup and Two Fish on a Decorative Bowl, painted by Emil Filla in 1930. The starting price for this work is EUR 87 500.
Zdenek Sykora is represented in the auction by an extraordinary, large-format oil painting, Makrostruktura IV (Schwarz-Weiss 72 IV) from 1972, from the Wannieck Gallery collection in Brno. It is one of 13 black-and-white paintings that Sykora created between 1971 and 1973. The work represents a new phase in the artist's thinking, consisting of a search for visually interesting details in his completed paintings. Macrostructures stand at the very peak of the structural period and at the same time indicate a transition to linear paintings. The canvas on offer has an estimated price of EUR 208 330. Another work by Zdenek Sykora in the auction is the 1989 oil painting Skvrny (Stains), which is a wonderful example of his work from the series of so-called famous "flekaci" (stainers).
A significant portion of the lots in the auction come from the collection of renowned graphic designer and typographer Rostislav Vanek. The collection is dominated by gray molten glass by the world-renowned glassmakers Stanislav Libensky and Jaroslava Brychtova. The work is a great example of their monumental sculptures, in which the authors masterfully open up the basic geometric form and demonstrate their mature knowledge of the material, color, and light possibilities of glass. This item, entitled Rubas II (Shroud II) from 1996, also includes a large-format drawing that formed the basis for the design of the subsequent glass object. Both works will be auctioned for EUR 116 670. In addition to these, the collection will offer works by Vladimir Kopecky, Jiri Cernicky, Ales Lamr, Michael Rittstein, and several foreign artists, such as Joan Miró, Sam Francis, and Alexander Calder.
Another extraordinary collection of gallery-quality works that will appear at the auction are works from the renowned Wannieck Gallery in Brno. In addition to Zdenek Sykora, the auction will also offer a meditative, minimalist oil painting by Vaclav Bostik, Untitled, with a starting price of EUR 100 000. Other gems in the collection include a large canvas by Jan Merta, Neznámému sklari (To the Unknown Glassmaker, after Sitensky) from 2004, with a starting price of EUR 41 250. Works by Petr Kvicala, Jiri Kovanda, Ivan Ouhel, and Pavel Hayek will also be offered with this significant provenance.
Collectors and investors will undoubtedly be attracted by the offer of unique sculptures, including a two-meter-tall ethereal sculpture entitled Muse (Muse for Jihlava) by Olbram Zoubek. The work from 2012 is considered a bridge between modern and classical sculpture and will be auctioned for EUR 62 500. Olbram Zoubek will also be represented by two small sculptures, Adam and Eve, with a starting price of EUR 16 250 for both works. Milan Kuzica will also shine among the sculptural pieces with his extravagant red sculpture Adam, The Happy Prince? with a starting price of EUR 24 580. The Happy Prince refers to Oscar Wilde's fairy-tale character, linked to the modern conception of the biblical figure of Adam. The sculptural gems will also be complemented by Bretislav Benda, Eva Kmentova, and Vladimir Preclik.
Czech painting from the first half of the 20th century is represented in the auction by sought-after names such as Vaclav Radimsky. His poetic River in the Landscape, which the painter painted in the vicinity of Giverny, France, will be auctioned for EUR 66 670. Works by Frantisek Kupka, Vaclav Spala, and Otakar Kubin will also be featured. The second half of the 20th century will be represented by a pair of works by Stanislav Kolibal, Untitled I and II, with starting prices of EUR 58 330 each. These minimalist canvases come from Kolíbal's transitional period, when he completely switched to abstract geometric forms. The canvases were exhibited in 1976 at the prestigious Marlborough Galleria in Rome. These works will be complemented in the auction by Oskar Kokoschka and Otto Herbert Hajek.
The auction will also feature a unique autograph by one of the most important Czech composers, Bohuslav Martinu, for the preparation of his famous opera The Greek Passion. It will be auctioned at a price of EUR 3 750. Among contemporary artists, the auction will also offer works by Jiri George Dokoupil, Magdalena Jetelova, and Jan Gemrot.
All works of art have been verified by leading Czech and foreign experts.
The auction house is the only one in the Czech Republic to provide a lifetime guarantee of authenticity for the works of art it offers.
